Instructions ~
First, attach your cake to the cake plate using buttercream. Fill your cake with layers of buttercream on one side, and peach jam on the other.
Shave down the sides of the cake to make sure it’s not uneven. You can see this step, and the rest of the prep, on our YouTube channel playlist. Place in fridge uncovered for 10-15 minutes to set up.
Apply a thin crumb coat in your yellow, to lock in the crumbs. This coat should be very light. Refrigerate again for 10-20 minutes.
Apply a smooth coat to the entire cake. Again, visit our YouTube channel to see this step.
Mix up your remaining buttercream colours up, and place them all in the piping bag together, The more random the better.
Pipe a swirl using the 1M tip. To see it in action, check out this video.
Now it’s time to make all the cute facial features of our lion.
Start by rolling out a sausage of red, and then cutting it to size. Use a boning tool or a toothpick on it’s side, to make the middle dent in the tongue.
Next, cut out brown and larger white circles for the eyes, and stick them together using sugar glue.
Roll two large round balls in yellow fondant for the cheeks, and one brown for the nose, pinching at the base. Use a boning tool to create nostrils.
Add the face to the cake, starting with the tongue, and eyes, and then adding the nose and cheeks.
Finally make little holes in the cheeks, and randomly place spaghetti of different lengths to give him whiskers.
