Hi, my name is Claire and I’m the owner of Cake Pop Creations based in Perth, Western Australia. I have been making cake pops for over 2.5 years and love being able to push the design boundaries of the humble cake pop! Cheeky Monkey Cake Pops
Ingredients & Tools:
Cake balls
Modelling chocolate – I tinted some ivory for the faces and pink for flowers
Lollipop sticks
Circle cutters (1 x mini & 1 small)
Heart cutter
Flower plunger
Candy eyes
Sharp Knife or Scalpel
Chocolate buttons
Sugar pearls
Dresden tool
Instructions:
Dip your lollipop sticks into melted chocolate and place into your cake ball
Place into some Styrofoam to set
Cut a small slice off each of the chocolate buttons and dip the straight edge into chocolate and affix to the cake ball which creates the monkey ears.
Dip your cake pop into the chocolate and let all the excess chocolate run off the cake pop back into the bowl. If you slowly turn it whilst the chocolate drips off, this will give you a more even smooth coverage. Leave to dry.
Roll out your ivory modelling chocolate between 2 pieces of baking paper or using a pasta machine.
Cut out a heart, small circle and a mini circle shape for each monkey.
Cut the mini circles in half as these will used on the ears.
Place the small circle of modelling chocolate onto the heart and cut around the top of the circle to create the eyes. Discard the point of the heart.
Place the modelling chocolate cut outs onto the cake pop to create the monkey’s face and ears. You shouldn’t need to affix with chocolate as the modelling chocolate is sticky enough.
Next add on the eyes (again they should adhere without adding a dab of chocolate) and use your Dresden tool or bamboo skewer to create nostrils and a mouth. You can make a smile or a cheeky “O” shape!
Roll out your pink modelling chocolate and cut out some flower shapes. Pop in a sugar pearl and affix to the edge of the ear.
If you have some pink luster dust, you can add some rosy cheeks to finish them off.
